John Mateer, Ricky and Billy Powell and I were coming back from Rick's house in Jacksonville in Tiny's (John Mateer) Belair 3 speed. We saw an armadillo on the side of the road and stopped to catch it with the idea of letting it go in the dorm! We put it in the trunk and headed to school. On arrival at Sanford, the armadillo had somehow gotten out of the trunk and was somewhere in the frame of the car caught and we could not get it out. Liberty was about over and we had to check in so we left it. Next day we tried to get it out. No luck. The armadillo ended up dying in Tiny's car somewhere and that was the end of Mateer's car, one of the few cars that any cadet had.
